Tips for searching Estate Index

Try entering just the last name only or enter the last name and the decedent's first initial of their first name to narrow the search results
Use the reset button to clear all fields
You can sort your results by : Estate number, First name, Middle name and Last name
The * Wildcard can be used to find a combination of estates
This can also be used on name searches like Smith* which would result in a return on all Smith, Smithers, Smithfield, etc.
To search for a date of death, use the following format: mm/dd/yyyy. For example, to search for a date of March 22nd, 1983, you would enter 03/22/1983 in the text box. If you are unsure of a date, you can use wildcards * in your search, such as */*/1983 would find any date in 1983.

List of Estate Types

Regular Estate - Assets subject to administration in excess of $30,000 ($50,000 if the spouse is the sole legatee or heir)
Regular Estate Judicial - A proceeding conducted by the Orphans' Court when matters cannot be handled administratively. For example, when the validity of the will is at issue, or the will is lost, stolen or damaged.
Small Estate - Assets subject to administration valued at $30,000 or less ($50,000 if the spouse is the sole legatee or heir)
Small Estate Judicial - A proceeding conducted by the Orphans' Court when matters cannot be handled administratively. For example, when the validity of the will is at issue, or the will is lost, stolen or damaged.
Foreign Proceeding - Decedent domiciled out of state with real property in Maryland
Motor Vehicle - Transfer of motor vehicle only
NonProbate - Property of the decedent which passes by operation of law such as a joint tenancy, tenants by the entireties, or property passing under a deed or trust, revocable or irrevocable. Non probate property must be reported to the Register of Wills on the Information Report or Application to Fix Inheritance Tax on Non-Probate assets.
Unprobated - Will and Information Report filed of will and Application to Fix Inheritance Tax
Modified Administration - A procedure available when the residual legatees consists of the personal representative, spouse; and children. Estate is solvent, Final Distribution can occur within 12 months from date of appointment. A verified final report is filed within 10 months from the date of appointment.
Guardianship Estate - Guardianship of property for a minor

Will Reference

NONE - No will on file
WILL - Will was received from another state
PD - Will was probated in the estate
UN - Will on file and assets did not exceed the allowances
